Cybersecurity has become one of the most important industries to safeguard our democratic values. The demand for #cybersecurity professionals has risen globally, as cyberattacks keep increasing in scale and severity. The supply of talent seemingly cannot keep up, resulting in an acute shortage. However, there is an even wider and more concerning gap in this #skills: the absence of diversity in cybersecurity.
The (ISC)2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study makes a compelling case for bolstering #diversity, #equality, and #inclusion (#DEI) efforts by, among other things, elevating women and other under-represented groups to senior positions. Study participants have said that the diversity can be increased through mentorship programs, flexible workplace conditions, eliminating pay and promotion gaps and establishing diversity goals for organizations.
We will only be able to achieve a truer reflection of talent and meet the needs of our digital society if we develop the profile of our workforce. Attracting more people with diverse backgrounds and work experience can solve the acute talent shortage including diversity and inclusion in the industry. But if the level of women in information security were to double, it would fill the anticipated workforce gap. It will be interesting to see whether companies answer the call for progress within the industry, as well as the experts’ take on how this can be achieved.
A global panel of industry leaders in information security from the USA, Singapore, Canada and Sri Lanka will each bring their unique perspectives to the table while exploring and debating the diversity, inclusion the acute cybersecurity talent shortage in the industry; as well as discussing concrete steps in closing that imminent cybersecurity workforce gap.
The Women in Cybersecurity an initiative by the ISC2 Colombo Chapter Sri Lanka together with (ISC)² Singapore Chapter will feature leading information security experts, Sharon Ko, Neha Malhotra, Ranjika Manamperi and Sunari Dandeniya in a virtual panel "Celebrating Women in Cybersecurity". They will examine many of the issues faced by the sector and females, including equality challenges for women in the profession. They will also put forward proposed recommendations that will endeavor to offer equal opportunities for all professionals, to bring about a gender-balanced workforce.
Cybersecurity needs a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
